Red dry wine “Homestead Series” Pinotage is created from Pinotage grapes grown on the sites in Stellenbosch. The height above sea level is 200 meters. Vineyards are open to the south-east summer breeze blowing from the Gulf False. The vintage of 2014 was very cold and humid in winter. Soil plots managed to accumulate a sufficient supply of water. The dry February delayed the start of the harvest. Red grape varieties managed to gain good phenolic ripeness and pigment concentration. The harvest of Pintozh was collected manually at the end of February. Vinification of the drink was as follows: slow alcoholic fermentation on the skin; Periodic penetration of “caps” for the best extraction of aromatic and pigmentary substances. At the end of alcoholic fermentation, the wine was subjected to malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. Stabilization and maturation of wine for 11 months occurred in French barrels (2 and 3 uses).
The estate of Bellingham (from the African “Bellinchamp” – “enchanting field”) is located in the Franschhoek valley, in the foothills of Groot Drakenstein. Founded in 1693 by the Dutchman Gerrit Janse van Vuuren, the estate has always been famous for its intriguing wines with unique characteristics.
In 1943 the estate and adjacent land was acquired by a new owner – Bernard Podlashuk, with the arrival of which Bellingham wines gained unprecedented fame. There were lines of dry white wines of extra class, the first wine of the Premier Grand Cru category, the first pink wine and the first wine from the Shiraz grapes were produced.
Since then, many things have changed in the estate: new cellars, modern equipment, new vineyards, and new wine lines that have already won world recognition. The high quality of Bellingham wines, which combine the traditions of South African winemaking and the latest technologies, remains unchanged. More information:
