“Pintia” is a wonderful wine, which, no doubt, belongs to the best wines of the Toro region. Initially, it was planned to be produced under the name “Alquiriz” (formerly called the estate of the Alvarez family), but in 2004 it was presented on the market as “Pintia”. According to archaeological excavations, in the V century BC. The territory where the estate is now located belonged to the Wazzi tribe who founded the city of Pintia here.
Wine “Pintia” is made from hand-picked and carefully sorted grapes. Grapes grow on sites in the vicinity of the city of San Roman de Ornih, on the picturesque hills. The height of the vineyards above sea level is 500-700 meters, and the age of the vines is 35-55 years. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in oak. Then the wine is aged 14 months in new barrels of French and American oak and another 18 months in bottles after bottling. The potential of wine storage is 15-20 years.
The Bodegas Pintia project was initiated by the famous Alvarez family – David and his son Pablo in 1995. They did a lot of work to adapt the winery to the production of Pintia wine. Two wineries of the family – Vega Sicilia and Alion are located in the region of Castilla and Leon, which has a large river Duero. The Toro region lies literally 100 km from the river. For several centuries, Thoreau was considered a well-known and authoritative winemaking region. It was here that Alvarez decided to start his own project, which was rather risky, because at that time Thoreau was not popular, but had great potential.
From 1997 to 2000 the company buys here vineyards, the age of the vines is from 25 to 50 years. For about 4 years, the founders of the company were gaining experience in winemaking in order to discover the potential of Toro wines. In the production of these wines, the most important aspect is the preservation of the properties of grapes in the production and aging process. The aim of the Alvarez family was to create wine as elegant as possible in the rather harsh Toro region. Wine “Pintia” was produced in 2001, it went on sale in 2004. The new wine quickly became popular all over the world due to its unique characteristics – exquisite taste and fine fruit aroma.
Some of the key factors that have influenced the triumph of Pintia wine are the faultless professionalism of winemakers, the best care for the vineyards, the use of modern equipment and the effective policy of the company.
