“Torrioni” – the first wine farms, production of which began in 1988. Name of wine in Italian means “fortress tower.” This tower was built during the time of the Etruscans and Romans called Galatrona as the second wine industry. The tower is shown on the label of wine “Torrioni.”
Blend “Torrione” consists of the dominant grape variety Sangiovese and a small percentage of Merlot and Cabernet Srvinon. The berries are grown in the vineyard area of 31 hectares, located in the central part of the Chianti region at an altitude of 250-450 meters above sea level. Soil, traditional for this area consist of a mixture of rock, sand, and galestro Alberese. The vines were planted in 80-ies of XX century density of 5000 vines / ha. The vineyard is practiced extremely low yields on the one vine removed no more than 500 grams of grapes, which allows to receive further concentrated wine has excellent structure, elegance and excellent balance.
Harvest maceration takes place in just over two weeks. Alcoholic fermentation is done in concrete tanks at a temperature of 28-30 C, after which the wine is moved into French barriques and barrels, which is carried out before December malolactic fermentation. Wine is aged for about 15 months in French oak barrels, a third of which – new. And the first 6 months “Torrioni” aged on its lees, which gives the wine a greater elegance, complexity and nobility. After bottling, the wine is aged an additional 6 months in bottles in the cellar economy. “Torrioni” has a great potential for storage and will disclose their best performance in 25 years.
Nestled among the green olive groves, vineyards and beautiful oak woods, the estate Petrolia is a place rich in history and full of charm. The main attraction is the Tower Galastona estate, construction of which was started during the time of the Etruscans and Romans, and the best wine farms are named “Torrioni” (“Big Tower”) and “Galatrona.” The villa overlooks the ancient church Romanesque Pieve, which is home to works by the Italian Renaissance sculpture by Giovanni della Robbia.
